A minimal staple piece of clothing combined with accessories that demand a second A glance is always a winner. Think metallics, metals, statement jewelry, hats & bags that say stuff (literally). But don’t over do it. Rule of thumb is to remove one accessory before leaving out. But honestly in my book there are no rules in Style, fashion, yes but when you have style you do whatever the heck you wanna do & own it! This black high low t•shirt dress pairs perfectly with these accessories. I added this camel hat which is my FAVORITE accessory right now, A bold statement neck piece that incorporates black jewels & heavy metals, a denim bag which doubles as a clutch with wording that brings about an interesting aesthetic & a pair of pointy toe flat silver metallic loafers. Because the shirt dress has high rise slits on the sides I added a pair of cut off faux leather faced leggings that aren’t visible on the photos I do live in the Windy City afterall, not trying to flash anyone. I played around with my lips by doing a heavy black liner & using a bright red to bring about an ombre affect.

I’ve gained a deeply saturated love for muted tones. Don’t worry I’m still completely obsessed with black. Eclectic is my aesthetic. Mixing pieces that aren’t the norm. To pair a structured hat with a little “grey” dress & an over sized “90’s” style jacket & sneaker wedges is what some may view as a stretch but I fell in love with what I saw in the mirror. I added this stark white book bag with rose gold zipper detailing & a long faux herringbone gold chain. Keeping with the muted tones I opted for a dark lip which ties the entire look together. Wondering why I seem to have combined all four seasons in one look? I’m a Chicagoan which should pretty much explain it but in deeper detail our weather tends to be all over the place sometimes. Right now we’re caught in between a hot Summer & a rich Fall hence the tones & the leg exposure.

I don’t have a set “style” I cannot & will not ever be placed in a box. It may always be difficult to shop for gifts for me as my taste is everchanging. There is no constant to my day to day look. How I feel is often how I dress. Bargain shopping makes this all the more enjoyable. I got this entire look for less than $80. I am a self proclaimed hippie…I live freely through my wardrobe. Life can box you up sometimes I express myself through dressing. I do not ever take into consideration the thoughts of another when I look in the mirror, I get dressed & if I like what I see, I set out for my day…

When I shop it’s not shopping, although I most likely have the time of my life, & the therapy, oh the therapy, however I set out on a mission to find the world’s greatest deals. For some that may seem like a task but for me, It’s a competitive pleasure & I compete with myself & sometimes even my own willpower to “not” go above what my spending goals are in total & per item. Sounds like more work than play hunh? Well not for me, I’m particular about the stores I frequent. Thrift stores, discount stores & buy, sell, trade shops are at the top of my list then for those regular retails stores the clearance & sale sections are my muse. I go into regular stores with my eyes on the prize. I literally avoid the front of the store at all costs (no pun intended). The front of the store is the enemy. It’s ok to treat yourself from time to time but everything in front will at some point in time during that season or even within the next 3 weeks wind up in the back with all the other treasures. If you always keep that in mind you’ll win everytime. It’s safe to say that Urban Outfitters is my favorite store. But I’ll do you one better they have a Surplus store in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of my hometown Chicago. The Surplus carries items from their regular store of which they are simply trying to get rid of, great for me because anytime I can find a duster originally priced at $300 for only $14 or a pair of Ecoté White Crackle Leather boots originally priced at $200 for only $39 or even a pair of black leather Dolce Vita boots originally priced at $300 for only $19 count me in! If you ever visit this store then is when you’ll understand the love I have for this place. It embodies my free spirited hipster love for fashion, home, beauty & music. I visited the store this Wednesday to shop for my daughter but still left with a couple jewels for myself. These very pointy black SUEDE (yes suede) oxfords by Silence + Noise were only $5.00 can you believe that? & these pointy toe wing tipped silver metallic oxfords (with an all leather inner) by Miista were only $40 both a steal! Tell me about how I should be locked up for leaving that store with such amazing deals! Pace yourself when you journey out to your next shopping venture & set goals. When you stick to what you want you’ll have a successful bargain shopping adventure & before you know it you’ll be a bargain shopping maniac, just like me!
